City of Doral Helps to Support MDC’s West Campus with Generous Contribution

Miami, Monday, February 25, 2008 - At Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Board of Trustees meeting on Feb. 19, City of Doral Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez presented MDC’s West Campus with a check for $250,000, to be distributed over the course of five years, and expressed gratitude for the vital role the college serves in his community.
“This is a golden opportunity for both the city and MDC to offer men and women a valuable education, particularly in the business sector,” said Mayor Bermudez.
The donation was made to help fund scholarship programs at MDC’s West Campus located in Doral, the college’s newest campus. Mayor Bermudez has been a steadfast supporter of the campus since it first opened its doors in March 2006. Last year, for instance, he was involved with the YoungBiz workshop series, designed to guide middle and a high school students interested in developing entrepreneurship skills. He also supported the grand opening of the West Campus Art Gallery last November.
MDC’s West Campus was established primarily as an institution specializing in business administration with courses designed to fit the needs of businesses in the surrounding community. Today, it serves more than 3,200 students and offers nearly 300 classes in diverse areas, such as English, real estate and computer training, among many others. The conveniently located campus is situated just off the Florida Turnpike and NW 41 Street at 3800 NW 115th Avenue.
