MDC’s North Campus Announces 2008 Student Government Association Executive Board (E-Board)

Newly-elected members of the 2008 Student Government Association Executive Board (E-Board)
Miami, Friday, June 27, 2008 - Miami Dade College’s North Campus welcomed student leaders from the college’s newest West and Hialeah campuses during a recent induction ceremony of its 2008 Student Government Association Executive Board (E-Board). Nearly 100 students, faculty and staff were present to witness the campus’ long standing institutional tradition of formally installing the E-Board.
“Students are the focal point of all educational and operational initiatives at our institution and it is a sensibility we uphold and value; having a representative group of student leaders from the college’s youngest campuses together with those from the oldest truly resonates in terms of the potential for future student-led collaborations that will benefit the college’s larger student population,” said North Campus President Dr. José A. Vicente.
This year’s inaugural exercises were marked by great pomp and circumstance coupled with the special formalities and protocols that are traditionally observed at induction ceremonies. Following a moving rendition of the Star Spangled Banner sung a cappella by North Campus student Christina Marcellin, outgoing and incoming SGA Presidents Lance McGibbon and Decalva Brown, addressed their peers.
The newly-elected officers – Decalva Brown (president), Jennifer Martinez (vice president), Brandon Janvion (executive director), Elizabeth Louis (treasurer), Isabel Tepedino (governmental relations director), Joshua Campbell (secretary), and Juliette Llado (public relations director) – were sworn in by the Honorable Darrin P. Gayles, County Court Judge of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit. Clad in his official judicial garb, Judge Gayles delivered the charge, emphasizing the importance of adherence to the highest ideals of ethics and sound judgment with regard to representing the greater good of the North Campus student body.
The North Campus SGA has continuously upheld a tradition of striving to empower the student body and promote collegiality and positive change through education and service. It serves as an important and viable liaison between the student body and the campus administration.
