As a Hispanic serving institution with a high proportion of students at or below the poverty line, Miami Dade College (MDC) seeks to apply student achievement measures to close the equity, racial, and gender gaps in educational attainment for minority students. The U.S. Department of Education graduation rates, reported through IPEDS, are calculated as the proportion of an incoming cohort of first-time students who start full-time in the fall term and who graduate within 150% of normal time to completion. MDC’s current IPEDS graduation rate (150% time) is 33%. The institutional goal is to continue to increase graduation rates for all undergraduate students, including students from historically underrepresented groups and low-income families.
