Program Requirements

To be eligible to request a milestone review to Miami Dade College’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program, you must complete the following steps:

  • Be 18 years old and have earned, or will earn, at the time of enrollment into the program, a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Visit Medical Campus Program Requirements web page to request a Milestone Review by the target deadline date.
  • Students must successfully complete HSC 0003 – Introduction to Health Care (2.5 credits) and HSC 0003L – Introduction to Health Care Lab (.5 credits) by the end of the fall semester in which they are requesting the milestone review.
Students can request a milestone review for the September 1st target review date while enrolled in HSC003/HSC003L for fall. Please note this is a graduation requirement.
  • Complete a minimum of 25 observation hours with a licensed Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant. We recommend students complete these hours at a hospital or private practice. The Observation Hours Form (PDF) must be completed and included with your request for a milestone review by September 1st. Please submit the Observation Hours Form to Roxanne Alexis, Student Services Assistant to ralexis@mdc.edu.
  • Enrollment in the program discipline courses is limited and competitive. Meeting the milestone requirements does not guarantee program progression into discipline courses. For this reason, the following criteria are used to determine which students will progress to discipline courses.

  5. Students can submit a request for a milestone review for the September 1st target date while enrolled in HSC003/HSC003L for fall.
  6. Florida residents will be given preference over non-residents.
